As much as I liked the theme I was using before, Glued Ideas Subtle, I wanted to make my blog look, well, mine, rather than being identical to too many others. Plus, my mate Jim said (probably quite rightly) that the flowery header image didn’t really suit me.
I’m now using K2, along with a custom stylesheet to make it look the way I like it. K2 is a follow-up to Kubrick, but vastly improved. It acts more like a framework than just a simple theme, allowing sidebar “widgets” to be added + moved around etc, and allowing you to select the style you want (which is where the custom CSS comes in).
So far I’m very impressed with it. It also has some very clever AJAXy magic which I will use when I move this blog to a faster server, but the current poor little VPS that it’s on is rather overloaded (as you may have noticed by the pig-slow loading of the site at times :(). Should soon have a half-decent server to move it to, then all will be well.  Until then, I can’t afford the performance hit of turning the shiny AJAX stuff on (as they would of course result in more roundtrips to the server, and more DB queries (particularly the AJAX search, which searches whenever you stop typing in the search box).
So, what do you think to the change? Leave a comment and let me know ![]()
VERY NICE!
Great touch. It really does make it more attracting.
I get a server error when clicking on the glued ideas link. I like the layout of the blog but I don’t feel the background image you have in the header of the clouds and sky fit what your blog is suppose to be about.
