Firefox slowness rendering digg.com - fixed

For ages I’ve found Firefox on Linux very, very slow when I go to Digg. It takes a while to load the page, and scrolling is horrible.
Finally found a solution to the problem.

The solution (which worked for me at least; YMMV) - use Adblock to block the image http://digg.com/img/main-back.gif and suddenly it loads quicker and scrolls normally again - phew!

To be honest I’ve gone off Digg a bit - as it became more popular, the quality of the stories on there seems to have gone way downhill.

I still find Firefox to be a resource hog, using way more CPU and memory than it ought to, but I enjoying using it enough that I’m still willing to put up with that - there’s some Firefox features and add-ons that I couldn’t face not having.

I found the solution above from this thread on the Debian forums.
