Network Solutions holding domains to ransom

Here’s a story I just posted at work about Network Solutions holding domains to ransom:

It appears that Network Solutions are immediately registering all domains searched for. In what I consider a highly shady move, Network Solutions have started immediately registering domain names when customers search for them via the Network Solutions website, and holding them for 4 days - effectively meaning that if you checked whether it was available using their domain search tools, you now have no choice but to buy it from them, locking out all other registrars.

I tested it by searching for network-solutions-stole-my-domain.com which was previously untaken, and within minutes, they’d registered it - see a whois lookup for confirmation.

Will the iPhone blend?

I’ve been getting sick of hearing about the iPhone lately, it seems to be the only thing a lot of bloggers and tech news sites are writing about. Sure it’s a pretty nice-looking gadget, but you’d think it was a f**king cure for cancer by the amount of exposure.

Remember these controllers?

Okay, here’s a trip down Memory Lane… Sock Master’s Video Game Controller Family Tree is a history of game controller evolution through time, showing all the main consoles and where they borrowed ideas from etc. An interesting read, and makes me want to dig out my SNES :)

USB - a nice little earner?

Tony Black made an interesting post on how USB is a nice little money-earner for the USB-IF (USB Implementors Forum).

Great post to start his new blog with (not counting the traditional “hey I have a new blog” initial post :)

Now it’s spontaneous MacBook combustion

Oh dear… after the wonderful exploding Dell laptops, it seems that Apple have decided to get in on the act, after a MacBook Pro exploded into flames.

Hot Apple pie anyone?

I use a Dell Inspiron 1150 laptop (a couple of years old, and not covered by the dodgy battery recalls) but I still will not leave it charging overnight or when unattended, just in case…
